The Department of Wildlife Resources is looking forward to this year’s event. The competitors and coaches make this event a success.
We look forward to seeing you at the Hunter Education Challenge, and wish each competitor the bestpossible outdoor experience!



  • Registration Checklist
    • Each team must register. Five competitors per team. Each team may have two coaches, one must be a certified Hunter Education Instructor or 4-H Shooting Education Instructor.
    • A copy of the competitor's Hunter Education card to Hunter Education office or presented at check-in.
    • All guests/parents must be registered.You will not be permited to stay if you are not registered.
    • Hold Harmless/Code of Conduct forms must be completed for each competitor, coach, and guest on site. Competitors under 18 must have forms signed by parents. 
  • Meal & Lodging Pricing
    • Breakfast: $10
    • Lunch: $10
    • Dinner: $15
    • Day Use (non-lodging) : $5 per day
    • Lodging: $25 per night
    *return check fee is $50.00
  • Refund Policy

    Full: April 14, 2023 *minus $35 registration fee

    Nonrefundable: After April 14, 2023

Summer Camp for the Whole Family!

Family camp, an annual event at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, Virginia. Family camp offers the chance for family members to bond with each other while at the same time experiencing their own level of independence in a safe environment. Participants (youth and adults) take three classes a day, one of which is specifically designated as a family activity. Classes offered include swimming, theatre arts, nature, canoeing, forestry, archery, and more. Afternoons and evenings are filled with special activities such as hikes, canoe trips, and campfires.

Family camp offers a variety of activities for all ages. Lodging is separated by family, with one family in each rustic cabin or bunkhouse room. Space is limited to 25 families. Registration is now underway and will continue until all spots are full.     • Each additional member: $75
    • Children age 2-4 years old: $35
    • Children under 2: Free

      Daily Attendance:

    • Breakfast: $8
    • Lunch: $9
    • Dinner: $13
    • Lodging: $21

    • $200 deposit with registration
    • Final payment and all signed forms due May 1, 2020
    • Final payment may be sent any time.
    • An information packet and all relevant forms will be mailed to you upon receipt of registration and deposit.

    • Full by May 1, 2020
    • Nonrefundable after May 1, 2020
